Mr Thomas Orchard of Woodwells said that he was with his thrashing machine in a field when the defendant came to him and offered him a hare. The Defendant had a dog with him. The Defendant said he was standing against a gate when the hare ran along and his dog ran after it and caught it.
George Sage said he was working at the machine when he saw the dog catch the hare. Defendant had no business in the field. It was a lurcher dog. The Defendant said the hare was hurt by the mowing machine, but that was not true.
There were several previous convictions of different kinds against Mr Sears.

LEVERSTOCK GREEN
AN IRRESISTIBLE TEMPTATION
A the petty sessions at St. Albans, William Steers of St Michaels was charged with game trespass at Woodwells Road Hemel Hempstead on January 20th. PC Sharp saw defendant get out of a fence with something under his coat and walk down the road. Witness found he had a rabbit and on going to the place where defendant got out of the fence he found a rabbit hole had been broken out. Defendant said the rabbit ran across in front of him and went into the hole As he could see it in the hole he pulled it out and killed it just as the constable came down the road. The Chairman said the defendant would be discharged on this occasion, but warned him not to be brought there again.

1930’s
“We had a good cricket team although the ground was away from the village being situated at Cherry Trees Farm which belonged to a well known liked farmer Bill Gale a member of the team. We often had to drive the cows from the field and clear away the cow pats before the game got under way. At that time the side possessed a demon fast bowler Albert Steers, a tall lean individual who I can remember having a trial for the Middlesex County eleven
………….
In the cottages running across the green linking the Bedmond and St. Albans roads (Church Cottages) lived Dick Steers the village decorator. He was one of the first trustees of the village hall, a fine ballroom dancer and much in demand as M.C. at local dances………….” From Syd Dollomore’s reminiscences.

The funeral took place on Tuesday in Leverstock Green churchyard, following a service in the church, which was conducted by the Rev.
