Nan; my poem to you

My Nanny Kiff

My Nan, Gladys Jessie, Kiffy, Ben;
You was always there for me,
The only one who was back then!

When my life had little meaning and all the times I was scared,
Nan, you was the one who showed me that you always cared.
The only person to whom my true feelings I shared!

Nan you made me believe I was not a bad kid at all;
it was just my curiosity that got me in trouble!

As a child with you, all I did was chatter,
I was free to be me, whatever I said did not ever matter!

I felt you could always be free too,
Sometimes a little too free, mind you!
You singing "Mellow Yellow" as you did in full verse
still to this day amazes me how my eardrums did not burst!

Only once did you bring me to tears,
with a well deserved clip around the ears!
Showing off to one and all,
I pulled the head off your flower,
then pushed my luck and de headed them all!

My first holiday abroad, Majorca with you, grandad and Rose,
I dont know what I did to deserve but I felt so special that it was me who you chose!

All those times we spent playing Gin Rummy,
brought me so much joy, and not because I won all your money!

Daily, you would cycle round with a bag of cream cakes,
that you acquired from Ackroyds as too many they did bake!

You believed in me, you was my guiding star,
Always telling me I was loved and that I would go far!

All these years on, your still there when I look to the sky,
and I feel your presence whenever I see a butterfly!

I only wish I had told you so
just how much you meant before it was your time to go.

So to you Nan I want to say, you were just remarkable in every way,
and always in my heart and thoughts forever you will stay x
